A Halloween Treat

His chocolate covered fingers forced more candy through his sticky brown lips. Tom’s jaw was sore from chewing, he tried to stop but his body called for more.   It had been hours since he took the bait; his trail of candy wrappers leading the family to their prey.  Melted candy squished in his hands as he squeezed more down his throat.
They had left the bait on their front porch, a bowl full of brightly-colored packages of sweets.  When Tom walked by the house, they watched through dark windows.  They waited for his gluttony to take ahold of him, slow him down and eventually tire him of all tasks except stuffing his face. Tom scrapped the bottom of the bowl, pushing aside empty wrappers, looking for one more piece of candy.  Turning over the bowl, a shower of sticky plastic revealed he was out of candy.  Tom started to sob, wiping at his face for any trace of smeared chocolate on his cheeks.
He didn’t hear the crunching sound come up behind him.  He didn’t register the knobby hand grabbing a fistful of hair until it started to drag him, and cry out triumphantly.  The man of the house proudly dragged Tom, happy to be able to provide for his family. Tom couldn’t resist the man, he was pulled into the house, the family pawed at him as he was carried into the kitchen.  He saw the large oven, the flames dancing seductively, he closed his eyes and fell into a chocolate fueled nightmare.
